Rohan Bopanna-Florin Mergea lose in semifinals of Wimbledon 2015

Rohan Bopanna and  Florin Mergea lost their semis in 5 sets

The Indo-Romanian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea lost a hard-fought semifinal against Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau of Netherland and Romania respectively 6-4 2-6 3-6 6-4 11-13 on Thursday.

The opening set saw both pairs win each of the respective service games,to go level at 4-4, until the Indo-Romania pair, first won the ninth game on their serve to go 5-4 up and then broke their opponent’s serve to take the opening set 6-4 and with it the decisive lead.

The second set began on a similar note as both pairs won 2 of the first 4 games, but this time it was the pairing of Rojer and Tecau, who broke serve in the fifth game to go 3-2 up and then piled the pressure by winning the next game to go 4-2 up. They eventually sealed the set 6-2 to make it one set apiece.

The third set saw a similar pattern at the start as both pairs won 3 out of the first 6 games on their respective serve but the Dutch-Romanian pair of Rojer and Tecau took the first big step in winning the set, first by breaking the opponent’ serve in the seventh game and then winning the next 2 games to take the third set 6-3.

With their backs to the wall, the Indo-Romanian pair began the fourth set in a strong manner, breaking their opponent in the first game and then taking a 2-1 lead. Following that, Bopanna and Mergea continued to pile on the pressure and eventually won the set 6-4 to take the match into the fifth set.

The fifth and final set saw the Dutch- Romanian pair take a 2-1 lead befoe Bopanna and Mergea but Rojer and Tecau made a strong return into the set to go 5-4 up. But Bopanna and Mergea refused to throw in the towel, winning the next game to make it 5-5 and then further fought back to make it 6-6. 

Both pairs went to-to-to-toe, pegging one another back consistently, but Rojer and Tecau held their nerve to take the fifth set 13-11 and progress through to the final.
