Elena Rybakina vs Fiona Ferro preview
21-year-old Elena Rybakina has been on a tear in 2020. She has reached five finals on the tour in 2020 - winning in Hobart - and climbed from No. 36 on the tour to a peak of No. 17. She is currently ranked No. 18 in the world.
Prior to 2020, Rybakina had never won a Grand Slam main draw match. But this year, she has reached the third round of the Australian Open and the second round of the US Open.
23-year-old Fiona Ferro, meanwhile, is also playing some of the best tennis of her career. She is currently ranked No. 49 in the world, five spots below her best ranking of No. 44.
Ferro reached the third round of the US Open in 2019 and has been to the second round of the Australian Open and the French Open previously.
Due to injuries, Ferro has played only one event since the tour shutdown. But that event was a successful one, as she won the title in Palermo.
Elena Rybakina vs Fiona Ferro head-to-head
Elena Rybakina leads the head-to-head over Fiona Ferro 1-0, having won their round of 16 clash in St. Petersburg earlier this year.
Elena Rybakina vs Fiona Ferro prediction
Elena Rybakina is definitely the favorite going into this match. The Kazakh reached four finals in the first two months of the season, and although she took some time to regain her winning ways after the tour resumed in August, she seems to have gotten there now.
Rybakina won three matches in the first three events since August, but reached the final in Strasbourg just last week.
After winning the title in Palermo, Ferro has been dealing with some injury issues. She plays a solid game from the baseline and will be motivated by her desire to perform well at her home Grand Slam, but Rybakina might have too much firepower for her.
Prediction: Elena Rybakina to win in straight sets.
