Hubert Hurkacz vs Roberto Bautista Agut preview
Fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz will square off against World No. 24 Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round of the 2023 ABN AMRO Open.
Hurkacz kicked off 2023 by participating in the United Cup. He scored wins over Alexander Bublik and Stan Wawrinka, but lost his next couple of matches. He was defeated by Matteo Berrettini and Taylor Fritz as Poland bowed out in the semifinals.
Hurkacz commenced his Australian Open campaign with a straight-sets victory over Pedro Martinez. He then needed five sets to get past Lorenzo Sonego and Denis Shapovalov en route to the fourth round in Melbourne for the first time. The 26-year-old lost to Sebastian Korda in a close five-set battle.
Bautista Agut, meanwhile, started the new season by competing in a couple of ATP 250 tournaments in Adelaide. He lost to Korda in the second round of the first event, but made it to the final of the other. The Spaniard came up short against Soon-woo Kwon in the title round.
Bautista Agut knocked out Joao Sousa, Brandon Holt and Andy Murray at the Australian Open, but lost to Tommy Paul in the fourth round. The 34-year-old was then stunned in the first round by teenager Arthur Fils in the opening round of the Open Sud de France.

Hubert Hurkacz vs Roberto Bautista Agut prediction
Both have had a decent start to the year, though Bautista Agut will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Fils. Hurkacz is a formidable player on the quick indoor courts, with his serve transforming into an even bigger weapon.
The 26-year-old's serving stats this year have been quite amazing. He's ranked fourth and fifth when it comes to the number of aces hit and first-serve points won, respectively. When it comes to service games won, Hurkacz is ranked 12th. However, he does tend to rely a bit too much on his serve.
Bautista Agut, on the other hand, is far more consistent in other aspects. That's the reason behind his perfect winning record against Hurkacz so far. He's able to neutralize his younger opponent's serve, while coming out on top in baseline exchanges as well.
Their matches have been quite competitive, with two of their previous encounters going into the third set. Hurkacz will need to be the aggressor this time around if he wants to emerge victorious, or else Bautista Agut will notch another win against him.
Pick: Roberto Bautista Agut to win in three sets.
