Sania Mirza announces her partner for 2014

Sania Mirza

After enjoying a nine match winning streak which saw her win two titles, Sania Mirza has decided on whom to partner next year.

After playing her final event of the season at Beijing, Sania said that she would continue pairing with Zimbabwean former no.1 Cara Black. The duo have enjoyed instant success since they first teamed up for the WTA Premier 5 event at Tokyo.

“We only started playing together last week – we try to win, of course, but we never expected to win, especially since we started at two of the biggest tournaments,” Mirza said. “To play so well with a new partner and to win two titles on the trot, it doesn’t happen every day – it’s tough to top this one.”

Confirming their partnership for the next season, Cara Black said,as quoted from the WTA site, “We couldn’t have asked for a better start. We’ll be playing together next year, so this is a pretty good start for that. We’re looking forward to giving it a shot and playing the whole year.”

If they are able to emulate this king of form during the next season, it would not be long before our Indian star places her hand on a Grand Slam trophy in Women’s Doubles.

Sania is also leading the Women in the doubles title count this season with 5 titles- 3 Premier, 1 Premier 5 and finally a Premier Mandatory, the next three levels( in reverse order) after the Grand Slams.

Her career seemed to be progressing in the right path after she struck a successful partnership with Elena Vesnina. Yet, the duo parted just before the Olympics and have never played together since. Sania later started partnering others, mainly Bethanie Mattek-Sands. After parting with the American, she played with Liezel Huber and Zheng Jie. She enjoyed considerable success with the latter. However, the Sania-Cara team seema to be the next big thing in doubles. With two titles and a victory over world no.1s Roberta Vinci and Sara errani, they have positioned themselves firmly on ground.
