Sania Mirza and Cara Black cruise into quarterfinals at Indian Wells
The fifth seeded Indo-Zimbabwean pair of Sania Mirza and Cara Black cruised into quarterfinals of the WTA Indian Wells by defeating unseeded American pair of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears.
Sania and Cara registered a straight sets victory, winning 6-3,6-4 in the second round of the hard court WTA Premier tournament. The Indo-Zimbabwean pair defeated the American team in 1 hour and 12 minutes.
Although the Mirza-Black pair was broken three times during the match, they broke their opponents as many as five times to gain the upper hand. They were particularly severe on the Americans’ second serve, winning 13 of 18 points on it for a success ratio of 72%.
Sania and Cara won 59 points in total compared to their opponents’ 44. They will now take on the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makaraova and Elena Vesnina in the quarterfinals.
