Sania Mirza goes on a Twitter rant to defend herself against 'daughter-in-law of Pakistan' comment
It’s been an eventful few days for Sania Mirza, even though she has been nowhere near a tennis court.
Two days ago Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao appointed her as the brand ambassador of Telangana, and also announced a grant of Rs. 1 crore to fund her training. It seemed like a well-deserved honour for the Hyderabadi lass, until a rival political party went up in arms against the announcement.
The BJP responded to the Chief Minister’s decision by launching a scathing attack on Sania, labelling her as the ‘daughter-in-law of Pakistan‘, opposing her status as a Telangana native and demanding why other more deserving young players from the state hadn’t been given the financial grant instead.
Was Sania going to take all of that lying down? Surely not! The tennis star has been known for her feisty demeanour, and she issued a public statement affirming that despite the fact that she was married to a Pakistani and was born in Mumbai, she was a true Hyderabadi and would always remain an Indian.
She didn’t stop there, however. This afternoon Sania let it all out on Twitter, sending a series of tweets vehemently defending her status as a Telangana native.
Yes it does clear all doubts and issues, Sania!
