Top ranked women's players begin their 2015 season this week

Will these 2 continue to dominate in 2015?

The WTA Tour in 2014 has been an exciting one which saw a lot of great achievements by some very talented players. We have seen some new players come into the fray and who are making a mark on the big stage, while we have also seen some of the familiar faces reach new heights in their careers. 

The 2015 season is  set to begin in a week’s time with 5 tournaments set to take place before the Australian Open which starts on 15th January. The Shenzen Open, ASB classic in Auckland, Brisbane International, Apia International Sydney, Moorilla Hobart International are scheduled to begin on the 5th and 12th January. 

Lets take a look at the schedule of the top ranked woman’s players. 

Serena Williams

Serena Williams had a disappointing start to 2014. She managed to end it on a high, winning the US Open and the WTA Tour Finals, thus ending another year ranked World No. 1. She will be starting off her campaign at the Hopman Cup in Perth alongside John Isner. 

Maria Sharapova

Maria Sharapova, ended 2014 ranked World No. 2 in the world with the French Open to her name. She will be kick starting her campaign at the Brisbane International in Brisbane. She reached the semi-finals in this tournament in 2014. 

Simona Halep

Simona Halep had an amazing season in 2014. She reached the finals of the French Open and the semi-finals at Wimbledon. She will be kicking off her campaign at the Shenzen Open in China on 5th January. She will also be taking part in the Apia International in Sydney on the 12th of January. 

Petra Kvitova

Petra Kvitova had one her best seasons in 2014 winning her second Wimbledon title as well as her 3rd Fed Cup title. She, too will be taking part in the Shenzen Open in China and Apia International in Syndey, on the 5th and 12th of January respectively. 

Other stars

Ana Ivanovic, the World No. 5 will be taking part in the Brisbane International along with Maria Sharapova. Caroline Wozniacki who hit a purple patch towards the end of the 2014 season will be taking part in the ASB Classic in Auckland and in the Apia International in Sydney along with Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova. 

The 2015 WTA season is set to begin in a week’s time and fans can expect it to be just as exciting a season as it was in 2014. Lets wait and watch as the drama unfolds on the 5th of January.
