Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian recalls the time Alex Morgan helped him launch Angel City FC
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian shed light on what sparked the idea for the launch of the National Women's Soccer League side Angel City FC and recalled how Alex Morgan helped him with the venture.
The co-founder of Reddit posted a screenshot displaying his comments regarding the marketing of women's sports, wherein he opines that "dominant" women players in tennis and football provide an apt foundation for long-term business opportunities.
American footballer Alex Morgan then volunteered to help Ohanian with owning an NWSL team after he posted a question on social media asking how to go about the task.
"The tweetstorm that led to @weareangelcity— credit @alexmorgan13 for the encouragement & advice," Ohanian tweeted recently.
Ohanian, who has been a strong advocate for the promotion of women's sports, particularly tennis and football, helped launch Angel City FC, which began competing in the NWSL in 2022.
Other founding members of the franchise include Serena Williams, actors Uzo Aduba, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, and Jennifer Garner.
Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, and Julie Uhrman are part of the ownership team for the Los Angeles side.
Ohanian, who stated that the argument that women's sports don't bring in the same viewership or money was "insane," claimed that women influence the majority of consumer spending.
The posts from 2019 were highlighted in the backdrop of NWSL clubs being added to FIFA 23's roster following their partnership with EA Sports.
Ohanian also added as part of his throwback that he will remain grateful to Alex Morgan for the encouragement and advice while helping him get started on the Angel FC project.
Serena Williams ahead of Michelle Obama, Beyonce and Meghan Markle as second-most Googled Black woman in 2022
Serena Williams remains one of the most popular and influential sporting personalities, despite having "evolved away" from tennis following the 2022 US Open.
Williams was ahead of former First Lady Michelle Obama, American singer Beyonce, and American actress Meghan Markle in terms of Google searches back in 2022.
The former World No. 1 thus had the distinction of being the second-most Googled Black woman.
American actress and singer Zendaya found herself at the top of the list, having featured in 2.7 million Google searches last year.
Serena Williams, with 1.6 million searches, was second on the list despite not having played much tennis during the 2022 season.
