Serena Williams leapfrogs Radwanska in WTA Rankings
London - American player Serena Williams rose to the No.3 spot in the WTA rankings Monday, dropping Agnieszka Radwanska down a place.
Poland’s Radwanska lost the third spot after failing to defend her China Open last week with a quarterfinal loss to Li Na as her ranking points from last year’s victory expired.
Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, who won the China Open Sunday by defeating Russia’s Maria Sharapova, retained the first place in the rankings, while Sharapova stays second.
Li climbed one place to seventh after a semifinal loss to Sharapova in front of her home crowd, dropping Italy’s Sara Errani to eighth.
Roberta Vinci of Italy leapfrogged Russia’s Maria Kirilenko for 15th place, while German player Julia Goerges climbed two places to 19th, displacing American Varvara Lepchenko, who dropped to 20th, and Russia’s Ekaterina Makarova, who is 21st.
In the men’s ATP rankings, Juan Monaco of Argentina re-entered the top 10 at No.10 when he forced out John Isner of the United States.
The rest of the top 10 was unchanged, meaning Switzerland’s Roger Federer remains No.1 ahead of Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Britain’s Andy Murray.
