
Serena Williams through to the quarterfinal with a convincing win over sister Venus Williams

World No. 1 Serena Williams progressed through to the quarterfinal with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Venus Williams.
Serena got off to a perfect start by breaking Venus’s serve to love in the first game of the match. She won the next four points on her serve to lead 2-0. Venus was on board in the opening set in the third game after she held her serve from deuce.
Venus earned her first break point opportunity in the fourth game with a forehand winner. Serena saved it with a winner near the net. However, two unforced errors from the younger Williams meant we are level at 2-2.
Serena struck right back breaking Venus’s serve when the No. 16 seed sent her backhand wide. There was no looking back for the World No. 1 as she sealed the first set with three aces.
The winner of the first set had gone on to win 21 of the 25 matches between the sisters.
Venus held her serve in the first game of the second set, but just about as she saved two break points from 15-40. Venus was in trouble in the seventh game as well as Serena earned a third break point opportunity with a backhand winner. Venus double faulted to give Serena a 4-3 lead.
It was not long before Serena wrapped up the match as Venus fell 0-40 behind in the ninth game. Venus hit a forehand long sending Serena to yet another quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
Serena will play either Victoria Azarenka or Belinda Bencic in the last eight.
