The third round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters will see Marcos Giron of the United States take on former Top-10 player David Goffin. The American player has broken new ground this season, winning his maiden ATP title in Newport and having an overall 22-22 record. He entered the Shanghai event after a first-round loss at the Japan Open, losing 4-6, 7-6(5), 4-6 to Hubert Hurkacz.
Besides the Newport title, Giron also reached the final at the Dallas Open, losing 6-7(3), 7-5, 3-6 to compatriot Tommy Paul. At the Shanghai Masters, the World No. 47 started his campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win before beating 24th seed Karen Khachanov 6-4,m 6-3 to book his place in the third round of the Masters 1000 tournament.
David Goffin has won 13 out of 27 main-draw matches he has played so far in 2024. The veteran Belgian has yet to win a title, with a semifinal run at the Winston Salem Open being his best showing on the court .
