Sharapova jeers Ivanovic during drama filled Cincinnati semifinal
Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic battled in an absolute thriller in the semifinal of the WTA Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. Sharapova trailed for majority of the match before pegging back to set up two match points to enter the final. However, Ivanovic regained her touch to save the match points and eventually win the match 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
In the beginning of the third set, Ivanovic was forced to take a medical time-out. A doctor had to check the Serbian’s blood pressure to assess the extent of her illness and administer proper medication.
The match reached boiling point in the eight game of the deciding set when Sharapova served a double fault to get broken. Emotions were clearly running high and the Russian was visibly agitated. She looked to have made a sarcastic remark intended towards her opponent.
