Sharapova withdraws from Rogers Cup, Federer may miss out as well
Russian World No 2 Maria Sharapova has confirmed that she will not take part in the Rogers Cup which will take place from August 3 to 11 in Toronto.
According to the Jamaica Gleaner, the Russian confirmed her withdrawal on Sunday stating that she has not yet fully recovered from the hip injury she suffered while playing in the Wimbledon earlier this year.
She had also pulled out from the Stanford Classic held this week, blaming her injury for her decision.
The tournament may suffer another major setback following reports of former World No 1 Roger Federer’s possible pull out from the tournament.
The Swiss ace, who lost to Daniel Brands in the Swiss Open, has admitted that he’s going through a treatment for back injury, raising doubts over his availability.
