Grigor Dimitrov once shared how his relationship with ex-girlfriend Maria Sharapova began. He also mentioned an occasion when he sent the Russian 500 roses.
Back in the day, Sharapova and Dimitrov were one of tennis' power couples. They made their relationship public during the 2013 Madrid Open. However, their romance didn't last, and they broke up in July 2015.
Dimitrov provided more insight into his relationship with Sharapova during an interview with The Telegraph, a month before they broke up. He revealed that it all began when he was impressed by her performance and immediately sent her an email. They started talking, which led to dates, and eventually, a serious relationship.
"We were both in China, me in Shanghai, her in Beijing. I sat down for lunch and saw her playing on television and emailed right away. We started talking a bit, then a month later when the season was over we saw each other and that became that," Dimitrov said.
The 33-year-old added:
"Sometimes I just go crazy and send her hundreds – 500 is the most I’ve ever sent at once."

In her autobiography 'Unstoppable' (2017), Maria Sharapova detailed her decision to end her relationship with Grigor Dimitrov during the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, citing the timing of their relationship as a major hurdle for her.
"I was supposed to be focused, getting prepared for my own matches, my own triumphs and defeats, on the largest stage of my career," Sharapova wrote.
"I had been watching his match that day only because I’d lost early at those championships. So his good memory was my bad memory. What meant everything to him happened only because I had lost," she added.
Sharapova and Dimitrov maintain a positive relationship, as they have no animosity. Sharapova has moved on and is now a mother to a baby boy named Theodore with her fiance Alexander Gilkes, while Dimitrov's relationship status remains unconfirmed.
