Andrey Rublev vs Alexandre Muller preview
Top seed Andrey Rublev will begin his 2024 Stockholm Open campaign, taking on Alexandre Muller of France in the second round. The Russian has a 39-20 win/loss record so far in 2024, most notably winning the Madrid Open while also clinching the Hong Kong Open. He entered the Stockholm Open after a disappointing 7-6 (7), 4-6, 3-6 loss to Jakub Mensik in the second round of the Shanghai Masters.
Barring the title in Hong Kong early in the year, the World No. 7 has had other decent results on hard courts, reaching the final of the Canadian Open and making it to the semifinal at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The former World No. 5 also reached the quarterfinal of the Australian Open, losing 4-6, 6-7 (5), 3-6 to eventual champion Jannik Sinner. Being the top seed, he received an opening round bye at the Stockholm Open.
Alexandre Muller has a 17-18 record so far in 2024, with no titles on the Tour. The Frenchman had a decent Shanghai Masters campaign before Stockholm, where he reached the third round, losing 3-6, 5-7 to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Muller has mostly been knocked out of the early rounds in the events that he has played at. One of the exceptions was the ASB Classic, where he reached the quarterfinals as a qualifier, losing 4-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6 to Taro Daniel. At the Stockholm Open, the World No. 70 opened his campaign with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Bjorn Borg's son Leo.
Andrey Rublev vs Alexandre Muller head-to-head
Rublev and Muller have only played each other once on the ATP Tour. The Frenchman won that encounter 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a third-round clash at this year's Madrid Open.

Andrey Rublev vs Alexandre Muller prediction
Rublev has reached 16 hard-court finals in his career, winning 10 titles on the surface. He has made seven quarter-finals on the hard-court Majors at the Australian Open and the US Open. In 2024, the Russian player is the only player aside from Carlos Alcaraz to have secured a hard-court win over World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Rublev defeated the Italian 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the Canadian Open quarterfinal.
Alexandre Muller has yet to win a title on the ATP Tour. The Frenchman has no notable performances on hard courts as of yet. His only ATP final was on the clay at the Grand Prix Hassan 2 last year, losing 6-4, 6-7 (3), 2-6 to Roberto Carballes Baena.
Given that the upcoming match will be on an indoor hard court, the advantage lies with the top seed as he has a better track record on the surface.
