Third seed Alexander Bublik is set to lock horns with fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals of the 2024 BOSS Open on Friday, June 14.
Bublik opened his campaign in Stuttgart against Hamad Medjedovic in the second round after receiving a bye in the first. Two service breaks in his favor helped him seal a routine first set. The second set saw no breaks of serve with the pair forcing a tie-breaker. Bublik proved the stronger in the breaker, sealing the match with a blistering ace down to the tee.
The Kazakh has had a good season so far, compiling a 20-12 win-loss tally and winning the Open Sud de France in Montpellier. He also reached the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships and the fourth round of the Madrid Open.
Musetti opened his campaign in Stuttgart with a gritty 7-6 (9), 7-6 (9) win over French youngster Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round. Up against Dominik Koepfer in the second round, Musetti conceded a tight opening set in the tie-breaker. It was a similar story in the second, but this time it was Musetti who claimed the breaker to take it into a decider.
Musetti broke early in the third set, racing to a 3-1 lead courtesy of a blistering forehand down the line. That break proved decisive as he went on to seal an emphatic 6-7 (9), 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory.
The Italian has had a disappointing 2024 season so far, with only 13 wins from 28 matches.

Bublik heads into the quarterfinals on the back of an impressive win while Musetti was taken the distance in a three-set epic.
Bublik was beyond impressive on serve, winning a whopping 88% of points behind his first serve. He faced only one break point and converted two on the return. He attacked the net and looks like a real threat going forward. He's played two grasscourt finals in the past and will be eager to make it add to it.
Musetti on the contrary has plowed through two gripping encounters. He's lacked consistency from the back on the court and has failed to convert the decisive points regularly.
We can expect a tight match between the pair but Bublik looks in prime position to go through. He will be hard to stop with the way he has been serving. Musetti will have to not only serve well, but also make early inroads on the return and attack the net regularly. Fighting fire with fire looks like the only option for Musetti.
