Sania Mirza to get funding of Rs. 1 crore from Telangana government
Hyderabad, July 21 (IANS): Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao has announced a grant of Rs. 1 crore to tennis star Sania Mirza for training and to meet other expenses to attend the US Open and other tournaments.
Rao will present the cheque to her Tuesday, said a statement from the chief minister's office here Monday.
Sania achieved career best world ranking of five in doubles early this month. She has had a successful year in doubles in 2014, pairing with Cara Black to win one title (in Oeiras) and reach the finals at Indian Wells and Stuttgart.
Formerly a top 30 singles player, Sania is the only female Grand Slam champion from India, having won the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles with Mahesh Bhupathi.
