Former World No. 6 Chanda Rubin jokingly proposed banning Jannik Sinner from the U.S. after he eliminated four American players at the 2024 US Open. During the Tennis Channel Live Podcast with Steve Weissman, Rubin, and Paul Annacone, Weissman humorously remarked:

"I hate to say it, guys, but I think we're going to have to deport him."

Rubin playfully agreed, saying:

"He shouldn't be allowed back in this country."

Taylor Fritz fights back tears during US Open trophy ceremony after first Grand Slam final loss

Taylor Fritz was brought to tears after a straight-sets defeat to top seed Jannik Sinner in the 2024 US Open final.

Fritz became the first American man to reach a Grand Slam singles final since Andy Roddick at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships after victories over Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini, Francisco Comesana, Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, and compatriot Frances Tiafoe en route to the championship match. After the match, an emotional Fritz was seen holding his head in his hands while seated on the bench.

During his on-court post-match interview, Fritz expressed gratitude to the fans for their support and apologized to American supporters for not being able to secure the title against the Italian champion.

"It's been an amazing run and thank you to the fans for everything this week. Being an American at the US Open is just incredible, feeling love all week, so thank you so much," Fritz said.
"I know you've been waiting for a (American) champion for a long time, so I'm sorry I couldn't get it done this time, but I'm going to keep working and hopefully I'll get it done next time, thank you," he added.

Eugenie Bouchard defends Jessica Pegula against backlash for her billionaire heritage

Eugenie Bouchard addressed the criticism surrounding Jessica Pegula, who was accused of using her billionaire status to secure a spot in the 2024 US Open final.

Pegula, the sixth seed and local favorite, was defeated 5-7, 5-7 by second seed Aryna Sabalenka in the championship match. After the loss, Pegula—whose parents, Terry and Kim, are billionaires and own several sports franchises, including the Buffalo Bills—faced backlash over her wealthy background.

An X (formerly Twitter) user questioned why Pegula was being criticized due to her family's wealth.

"I don't get why Jessica Pegula gets hated because she is 'the daughter of' and comes from a wealthy family. She seems like a down-to-earth and fun person and worked her a** off to climb in the rankings. Just like EVERY PLAYER. You can't buy talent and work ethic," the account wrote.

Bouchard replied:

"Money can’t buy a US Open final lol."

En route to her first Grand Slam singles final, Pegula defeated Shelby Rogers, Sofia Kenin, Jessica Bouzas, 18th seed Diana Shnaider, top seed Iga Swiatek, and Karolina Muchova.
