Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu will face Clara Tauson in the first round of the Paris Olympics 2024.
Following an injury lay-off, Andreescu returned to action at the French Open, and lost to eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini in the third round. She found immediate success on grass as she reached the final of the Libema Open but came up short against Liudmila Samsonova.
Andreescu then crashed out in the first round of the Bad Homburg Open. She knocked out Jaqueline Cristian in her Wimbledon opener, and then upset 26th seed Linda Noskova to reach the third round. She was once again shown the door by Paolini. She will now make her debut at the Olympics.
Tauson's best result this year has been reaching the fourth round of the French Open, her first time making it that far at a Major. She ousted former Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria in the first round, and then beat Grand Slam champions Jelena Ostapenko and Sofia Kenin to make the fourth round.
Tauson was then eliminated by Ons Jabeur. The grass swing wasn't as fruitful for her as she failed to win a match on the surface. The Dane will be contesting the Olympics for the first time as well.

Tauson has performed decently on the clay courts of Roland Garros. She has crossed the first hurdle on all four of her previous attempts, and achieved a career-best result at the venue this year by reaching the fourth round.
Andreescu has made the third round of the French Open for two years in a row now. Both players have dealt with their fair share of injuries, and are looking to make an impact on the tour now that they're back in fighting shape.
Andreescu is the more accomplished player of the two, having won the US Open back in 2019. Since returning to the tour a few weeks ago, she has shown flashes of the form that made her a household name five years ago.
While Tauson performed well at the recently concluded French Open, she has been quite inconsistent this year. She is also on a three-match losing streak at the moment. While the Dane is a credible threat, Andreescu will be favored to advance further based on her prior experience.
