Tennis star Madison Keys shuts down haters on Twitter who abused her after defeat
The 21-year old American tennis sensation, Madison Keys, took part in the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan where she had to face defeat in the opening first round match against Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva as she lost in three sets with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-3 and 6-7.
The American tennis player could not win her first game of the Japan Open and hence, crashed out of the tournament against the Kazakh opponent. However, her followers on Twitter did not seem to like the fact that the American lost the game to an opponent from Kazakhstan.
Tweets full of hatred and filth for the 21-year old started to surround her Twitter handle, which led to Keys mentioning the offenders in her tweets. The world number 9 did not just ignore the tweets which had used offensive and inappropriate language.
The first tweet sees the tennis player thanking the offender for his ‘encouraging’ words. This led to Twitter taking serious action against the offender for his foul language towards the tennis player, and hence removing him from the social media website. There is also another tweet from the American which clearly mentions what the twitter user said to her.
Madison’s quest of highlighting these serious offenders did not stop there as she mentioned another Twitter user in her third and last tweet which read:
The player saw two accounts getting deleted from Twitter after she had replied to their vulgar and hate tweets. It could be that the supporters of the player might have reported these tweets as spam or the player herself would have reported the accounts.
It is a good thing that celebrities and athletes are now coming forward to expose what they are forced to hear from fans and haters from around the world, especially after giving their all for the nation at the biggest stage.
However, the player also found some of her fans on the social media who wanted to make her feel loved – and support came in large numbers from her fellow players on the WTA Tour.
