Lesia Tsurenko vs Zhu Lin preview

Zhu Lin, who defeated compatriot and seventh-seed Wang Zinyu, will take on Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine in the final of the 2023 Thailand Open.

Lin, who reached the Round of 16 at the 2023 Australian Open after an upset win against Maria Sakkari, had earlier made it to the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic.

The Chinese player who took the first set, went on to lose to Victoria Azarenka in the fourth round in Melbourne. She has been in great form throughout the ongoing tournament.

Tsurenko, meanwhile, made it to a WTA tour final after a four-year gap when top-seed Bianca Andreescu was forced to withdraw with the Ukrainian leading 7-5, 4-0.

Lin, the World No. 54, has her task cut out against Tsurenko, who looked to be in total control during her semifinal encounter against Bianca Andreescu. This was after the Ukrainian got past Anna Kalinskaya and Hua Hin earlier.

Tsurenko, who is in search of a possible fifth WTA title, will need to find a way to offset her opponent's ability to control proceedings from the baseline. The former World No. 23 last won a tour title at the 2018 Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco.

Lesia Tsurenko vs Zhu Lin prediction

Both Tsurenko and Lin are in form going into the final, but the 29-year-old holds the edge thanks to her exploits at the ASB Classic and the Australian Open.

Lin will need to minimize unforced errors in the big final if she is to turn the tables on the 33-year-old who got the better of her in Dubai back in 2019.

Lin, who is set to break into the top 50 irrespective of the result in the Thailand Open final, will be looking to power past her opponent by using her strong forehand.

Pick: Zhu Lin to win in three sets.
