Wang Xinyu vs Zhu Lin preview
Seventh-seeded Wang Xinyu will take on her Hua Hin women’s doubles partner Zhu Lin in the semifinals of the 2023 Thailand Open.
Xinyu had a good start to 2023 making it into the quarterfinals of the Hobert International after playing the qualifiers. She followed it up with a second-round exit at the Australian Open.
The 21-year-old posted straight-set wins over Joanne Zuger and Mirjam Bjorklund to advance to the quarterfinals in Thailand. She then defeated Heather Watson in a tightly contested match, 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-4 to progress to the last four.
Zhu Lin started her 2023 season on a promising note by reaching the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic, defeating Venus Williams en route. She carried her form into the Melbourne Major, where, for the first time in her career, she reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam before losing a tight three-set match to Victoria Azarenka.
The 29-year-old started her Thailand Open campaign with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over third-seeded Wang Xiyu. She followed it by beating Jang Su-Jeong 6-4, 7-6 in the second round and a straight-sets win over Tamara Zidansek to make it to the semifinals of the WTA 250 event.
Wang Xinyu vs Zhu Lin head-to-head
This will be the second time that Lin and Xinyu will face off on the WTA tour. They previously went head-to-head in the first round of the US Open in 2018, where Zhu won 6-3, 6-4.

Wang Xinyu vs Zhu Lin Prediction
While Xinyu and Lin have reached the final in Hua Hin as a doubles pair, they will take on each in the semifinals of the women's singles on Saturday. This should be an interesting contest as both players will be eyeing their maiden career WTA final.
Lin has made small adjustments to her game this season and her proactive approach on the court has troubled her opponents. The 29-year-old has an aggressive style of play and will look to strike it big with her forehand.
However, Xinyu, on her part, will look to take the game to Lin and hope to capitalize on any lapses on her opponent's part.
If Lin can stay focused and keep her unforced error count low, the match should go her way.
Prediction: Zhu Lin to win in three sets
