Spanish third seed David Ferrer advanced by walkover into the third round of the ATP Masters Miami hardcourt tournament on Friday when Russian opponent Dmitry Turnsunov withdrew with a stomach bug.

Ferrer will next face the winner of a later second-round match between France’s Michael Llodra and Italian 32nd seed Fabio Fognini.

Ferrer, who like all seeds received a first-round bye at Miami, was eliminated in the second round of his previous event, the ATP Masters event at Indian Wells.

Before the hardcourt events, the 30-year-old Spaniard reached the final on clay at Acapulco, where he lost to countryman Rafael Nadal 6-0, 6-2.
