Bianca Andreescu vs Katie Boulter preview
Bianca Andreescu will face ninth seed Katie Boulter in a highly-anticipated quarterfinal clash at the 2024 Toray Pan Pacific Open on Friday, October 25.
Andreescu arrived in Tokyo following a disappointing first-round exit at the Japan Women's Open 125, where she lost to Greet Minnen in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
She bounced back strongly at the Ariake Coliseum this week with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over local qualifier Mei Yamaguchi in her opener. She advanced to the quarterfinals after second seed Beatriz Haddad Maia was forced to retire due to a back injury while trailing 3-0 during their second-round encounter.
Boulter, who suffered a second-round defeat to Haddad Maia in Ningbo a couple of weeks ago, began her campaign in Tokyo with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 win over Australian qualifier Priscilla Hon.
She then faced home favorite Kyoka Okamura in the second round, where she dominated with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, bringing her experience and disciplined play to the fore despite a valiant effort from the Japanese qualifier.

Bianca Andreescu vs Katie Boulter prediction
Bianca Andreescu enters this clash with a 10-8 match record this season. Her best result came on grass, reaching the final in 's-Hertogenbosch. Her form on the hard courts, however, has been shaky, with a 2-4 record this year. Inconsistency and difficulty closing out matches from winning positions have hampered her progress.
Boulter, in contrast, is enjoying a breakthrough season, boasting a 31-19 record and titles in San Diego and Nottingham. Her hardcourt form since Wimbledon has been less impressive, with a 7-6 record. Her quarterfinal run in Tokyo this week has been her best hardcourt result since.
On paper, Boulter appears stronger, but Andreescu has historically performed better during this part of the season. Both players are yet to drop a set this week and look evenly matches heading into the contest.
Andreescu’s chances of winning could increase if she serves well and dominates baseline rallies. Making early breakthroughs on return will also be key, especially on the Toray Open's slower surface.
Pick: Bianca Andreescu to win in three sets.
