Katie Boulter vs Kyoka Okamura preview
Ninth seed Katie Boulter will take on Kyoka Okamura in the second round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Wednesday.
Boulter has had a bright season so far, having amassed 28 wins from 48 matches, including title-winning runs in the Nottingham Open and the San Diego Open. She also reached the fourth round of the Miami Open but lost to Victoria Azarenka in straight sets.
The Brit entered Tokyo on the back of a second round exit in Ningbo. She started her campaign by breezing past Priscilla Hon in the first round, 6-1, 6-4. Boulter won 73% of her first serve points and outclassed the Australian in one hour and 16 minutes.
Kyoka Okamura, on the contrary, has played most of her tennis on the ITF circuit this year. She entered the main draw in Tokyo via the lucky loser system and stunned Hailey Baptiste in the first round. The 29-year-old defeated Baptiste in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Okamura is making her second appearance on the main tour in the Toray Pan Pacific Open. She featured in the Chennai Open two years ago, where she lost to Nadia Podoroska in the first round.

Katie Boulter vs Kyoka Okamura prediction
Katie Boulter has a great chance to pick up her third title of the season in Tokyo. She faces stiff competiton from the likes of Zheng Qinwen, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Daria Kasatkina, who clinched the Ningbo Open last week. However, with none of the top five players in the world included, the Brit should fancy her chances of making a deep run.
Okamura, on the other hand, is through to the second round on the main tour for the first time in her career. She has nothing to lose against a quality player like Boulter and will look to get things right in the second round. The Japanese won 75% of her first serve points in the last match and held her nerve to save two out of three break points.
Boulter will be hoping to put up a flawless performance in the second round and set the tone for the rest of the week in Tokyo. The Brit shouldn't have too many problems edging past Okamura in this bout.
Pick: Boulter to win in straight-sets.
