Bianca Andreescu vs Mei Yamaguchi preview
Bianca Andreescu will kick off her 2024 Toray Pan Pacific Open campaign against local qualifier Mei Yamaguchi in the first round on Monday, October 21.
Andreescu has struggled with consistency since returning from an injury at the French Open this year, posting a modest 8-7 match record so far. Her standout result was a runner-up finish at the Libema Open, where she lost to Liudmila Samsonova. She also made it to the third round of both the French Open and Wimbledon, losing to Jasmine Paolini on both occasions.
Andreescu has been unable to secure a win since the Paris Olympics, however, with her most recent defeat coming at the Japan Women's Open last week against Greet Minnen in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
Yamaguchi, on the other hand, will be making her WTA main draw debut after competing on the ITF circuit. She previously entered the qualifiers in Seoul but lost in the first round to Polina Kudermetova.
Yamaguchi began her campaign this week in the qualifiers. She beat 10th seed and compatriot Haruka Kaji 6-3, 6-3 in the first round, and followed it up with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Eri Shimizu to secure her place in the main draw.
Bianca Andreescu vs Mei Yamaguchi head-to-head
Andreescu and Yamaguchi have yet to face off in professional competition so their head-to-head stands at 0-0.

Bianca Andreescu vs Mei Yamaguchi prediction
Andreescu is still searching for her first hard-court win of the season. After missing the first half of the year due to injury, she has gone 0-4 since the start of the North American hard-court swing.
Yamaguchi, on the other hand, is set to play her first main draw match of the season after competing exclusively on the ITF circuit up until now. She impressed in the qualifiers, advancing to the main draw without dropping a set.
Despite her recent struggles, Andreescu will enter this match as the clear favorite. She has far more experience and is a stronger player on hard-courts compared to her opponent ranked 409 in the women's charts.
Pick: Andreescu to win in straight sets.
