11 trophies Jannik Sinner lifted during historic 2024 season ft. Grand Slam titles and World No. 1
Jannik Sinner scripted a historic 2024 campaign that saw him win his first two Grand Slam titles and claim the World No. 1 crown. With that, he became the first Italian player to be placed atop the rankings.
Sinner posted a phenomenal 92.41% success rate, winning 73 (the most by any player in 2024) of his 79 tour-level matches. Courtesy of his indomitable presence, he boasts a staggering 3915-point lead over World No. 2 Alexander Zverev.
Jannik Sinner is also only the first man after Roger Federer (2005) not to lose a match in straight sets. On hardcourts, the 23-year-old enjoyed the third-best season in history, only behind Federer’s 2005 and 2006 campaigns.
On that note, let’s look at the trophies Jannik Sinner lifted in 2024:
#1 Jannik Sinner wins maiden Grand Slam at Australian Open
Sinner kicked off his 2024 campaign after carrying Italy to a first title in 47 years at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals. En route, he scored a crucial win against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Interestingly, the Italian had earned his first-ever win against the Serb the week before that, in the group stages of the ATP Finals.
Sinner opted out of any warm-up tournaments before the Australian Open. He, however, competed at the Care Wellness Kooyong Classic to get some matches under his belt and won the exhibition event.
The player carried his form into the Melbourne Major, beating Botic van de Zandschulp, Jesper de Jong, Sebastian Baez, Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev in straight sets. He then stunned 10-time champion Djokovic in four sets in the semi-finals — a career-first for the Serb at the tournament.
In the final against his arch-rival Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner staged a comeback for the ages, winning from two sets down: 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to clinch his first Grand Slam.
#2 Wins ATP 500 in Rotterdam
Sinner continued his hot streak in Rotterdam, where he was the runner-up in 2023. He conquered Van de Zandschulp, Gael Monfils, Milos Raonic and Tallon Griekspoor before outclassing Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-4 in the final. It was his 12th career title.
#3 Wins second Masters 1000 title in Miami
At the Miami Open, Sinner was again defending his runner-up finish, having lost to Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 final. He made it count this time, beating Andrea Vavassori, Griekspoor, Christopher O’Connell and Tomas Machac before exacting revenge against Medvedev. In the final, he crushed Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-1.
With that, he won his second Masters 1000 trophy, after the 2023 Canadian Open.
#4 Accepts the World No. 1 trophy
While a claycourt title eluded Jannik Sinner this season, he achieved a major milestone during his French Open semi-final campaign — making his World No. 1 debut. The Italian became the first player from his country to get his hands on the elusive trophy.
#5 Jannik Sinner wins 1st grasscourt title in Halle
Just days after accepting the World No. 1 trophy, Jannik Sinner was back in action at the ATP 500 in Halle. He was in pursuit of his first grasscourt title at the tournament.
After struggling in the initial rounds against Tallon Griekspoor, Fabian Marozsan and Jan-Lennard Struff, the Italian earned straight-set wins against Zhang Zhizhen and 2022 champion Hubert Hurkacz (7-6(8), 7-6(2)) to lift the trophy.
#6 Clinches 3rd Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati
After his Wimbledon quarter-final exit, Jannik Sinner struggled with illness that forced him out of the Paris Olympics. He returned to action at the Canadian Open but was unsuccessful in his title defense.
Just days following the setback, Sinner rose to triumph at the Cincinnati Masters, beating Alex Michelsen, Jordan Thompson, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev and Frances Tiafoe 7-6(4), 6-2.
#7 Becomes the US Open champion
The 23-year-old carried the momentum into the US Open, showing immense mental fortitude throughout his campaign. He knocked out Mackenzie McDonald, Alex Michelsen, Christopher O’Connell, Tommy Paul, Daniil Medvedev and Jack Draper before his impressive 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 victory against home favorite Taylor Fritz in the final.
Jannik Sinner not only strengthened his hold on the year-end World No. 1 throne by winning his second Grand Slam but also became the youngest man to win both hardcourt Majors in the same season.
#8 Collects fourth Masters 1000 trophy in Shanghai
During the Asian swing, Sinner fell one win short of defending his ATP 500 title in Beijing. He, however, made up for the loss the following week, winning his third Masters 1000 title of the season in Shanghai and fourth overall.
En route, he beat Taro Daniel, Tomas Etcheverry, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev, and Tomas Machac. In the final, he racked up his fourth victory against Novak Djokovic, 7-6(4), 6-3 and also sealed his year-end World No. 1 position during the campaign.
Interestingly, just days later, Sinner beat Medvedev and Djokovic again at the Six Kings Slam exhibition event in Riyadh. In the final, he outfoxed his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 for the biggest payday in tennis history — $6 million.
#9 Jannik Sinner hoists year-end World No. 1 trophy
Sinner skipped the Paris Masters due to illness and resumed his campaign at the last ATP event of the season — the ATP Finals. There, he was awarded his first year-end World No. 1 trophy in front of his home crowd in Turin.
His family, including mother Siglinde, father Hanspeter and brother Marc, were present to witness the emotional moment. Sinner is the 19th different year-end World No. 1 in ATP history.
#10 Becomes first Italian to win ATP Finals
At the ATP Finals, the top seed breezed past his top-10 opponents — Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev. Notably, he didn’t allow them more than four games in a set. He continued his dominance in the knockouts, crushing Casper Ruud 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals and Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the final to become the first Italian to clinch the ATP Finals title, having fallen short in the 2023 finaal.
With that, he joined Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as only the third man to win the three biggest hardcourt titles — the Australian Open, US Open and ATP Finals — in the same season. Sinner is the youngest to do so nd is also the first player since Ivan Lendl in 1986 to win the title without losing a set.
#11 Leads Italy to second straight Davis Cup title
Jannik Sinner ended his ATP season with eight titles, a World No. 1 debut trophy, and an end-of-year No. 1 trophy, but his historic campaign didn't end there. Just days later, the two-time Grand Slam champion teamed up with his Italian squad to kick off their Davis Cup Finals defense.
Yet again, he cruised through his matches without dropping a set, beating Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, Australia’s Alex de Minaur and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Alongside compatriot Matteo Berrettini, the Italian led his country to a second straight Davis Cup title to cap off the season.
With the victory, Jannik Sinner became the first player in history to win two Majors, the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup in the same season.
