Fifth seed Daniil Medvedev will take on Nuno Borges in the fourth round of the US Open on Monday.
Medvedev is known for his hard court prowess on the men's tour. After securing runner-up finishes in Melbourne and Indian Wells, he reached the semifinals in Miami and Wimbledon. Despite a valiant effort against Carlos Alcaraz, he fell to the Spaniard in London in four sets.
The 28-year-old entered New York on the back of disappointing early exits in Montreal and Cincinnati. He made amends by cruising past Dusan Lajovic and Fabian Marozsan in the first two rounds and then outsmarted Flavio Cobolli en route to the fourth. Medvedev defeated the Italian, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
Nuno Borges, meanwhile, is slowly finding his feet on the main tour. He's had an impressive season so far by amassing 24 wins from 45 matches, including a title-winning run in the 2024 Swedish Open. He also reached the quarterfinals in Los Cabos and Estoril, where he lost to Casper Ruud and Cristian Garin, respectively.
Borges entered New York on the back of early exits in Cincinnati and Winston-Salem. He started his US Open campaign by breezing past Federico Coria and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first two rounds and then overpowered Jakub Mensik in the third. Borges defeated the Czech Mensik in a thrilling five-set bout, 6-7(5), 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-0.
