Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz preview
Top-ranked Jannik Sinner will lock horns with home favorite Taylor Fritz in the final of the US Open 2024.
Sinner commenced his quest for the title here with a four-set win over Mackenzie McDonald. He beat Alex Michelsen and Christopher O'Connell in straight sets in the next two rounds. He didn't drop a set either against Tommy Paul in the fourth round, and overcame a second-set stumble to defeat Daniil Medvedev in four sets in the quarterfinals.
Sinner was up against 25th seed Jack Draper in the semifinals. The former dealt the first blow in the opening set to go 4-3 up, though the latter broke back immediately to stay on even terms. However, the Italian then nabbed the last three games of the set to take it.
Both players had break point chances in the second set but neither capitalized on their opportunities, which led to a tie-break, in which Sinner gained the upper hand. Draper faded away in the third set, and the Italian bagged four games in a row to register a 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2 win.
Fritz ousted Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini, and Francisco Comesana in straight sets to reach the fourth round. He beat Casper Ruud in four sets and downed Alexander Zverev in four sets after that to set up a semifinal showdown with Frances Tiafoe.
Fritz blew a 3-0 headstart in the first set as Tiafoe turned the tables on him to take the set. The former edged out the latter to snatch the second set before it went to a tie-break.
Tiafoe snagged a break of serve to start the third set and kept a tight leash on the lead to claim another set. The two were evenly matched in the fourth set until Fritz broke his rival's serve as he served to stay in the set to clinch the set. He was unstoppable in the final set, dropping only one game in it as he raced to the finish line for a 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory.
Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz head-to-head
The two have split their previous two meetings evenly to tie the head-to-head at 1-1. Sinner won their most recent encounter at last year's Indian Wells Masters in three sets.

Jannik Sinner vs Taylor Fritz prediction
Sinner advanced to his second Major final of the season following his triumph at the Australian Open. He won the Cincinnati Open before the US Open and extended his unbeaten run to 11 matches after his win over Draper. The Italian won 77 percent of his first serve points, 56 percent of points on return, and fired 43 winners in comparison to 34 unforced errors.
Fritz staged a comeback to reach his first Major final and became the first American man to reach the US Open final since Andy Roddick in 2006. He won 75 percent of his first serve points against Tiafoe, 36 percent of return points, and struck 42 winners against 35 unforced errors.
While both players had similar stats in their semifinal victories, Sinner trumped Fritz when it came to points won on return. This could very well prove to be the decisive factor in the final as both are excellent servers.
Fritz is ranked fourth when it comes to his performance on serve over the past 52 weeks, while Sinner is right behind him in fifth place. However, the latter is ranked seventh concerning his return performance, while the former is ranked 24th.
Sinner has a 54-5 record for the season and has gone 74-7 since the conclusion of last year's US Open. Fritz, meanwhile, has a 44-16 record this year. Based on their results, this is a David vs Goliath scenario. The Italian is the clear favorite, though the American is a capable player and could rise to the occasion with the help of an inspired home crowd to claim his maiden Major title.
Pick: Jannik Sinner to win in four sets.
