Seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz will look to continue his US Open campaign in 2024 when he takes on Jordan Thompson in the second round. Hurkacz has shown good form in 2024, winning the Estoril Open on clay and a 39-16 win-loss record. The Pole was previously seen in action at the Cincinnati Open, where he had to retire in his quarterfinal against Frances Tiafoe.
Barring the Cincinnati result, the world No.7 has had some other encouraging results on the hard courts, such as reaching the semi-final of the Open 13, and the quarterfinal of the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Canadian Open.
The Polish player also reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, losing to Daniil Medvedev in five sets. At the US Open, the seventh seed defeated Kazakh Qualifier Timofey Skatov in straight sets in the first round.
Jordan Thompson has had a good season in 2024, with a record of 29-19. The Australian won his maiden title on the Tour, winning the Los Cabos Open where he defeated Casper Ruud in the final. Thompson last played at the Cincinnati Open, where he forfeited his round of 16 math against top seed Jannik Sinner.
The World No.32 has shown good form on hard courts this season. He reached the final of the Atlanta Open, losing to Yoshihito Nishioka. He also reached the Brisbane International semi-final and the Citi Open's quarter-final. At the US Open, Thompson secured a straight-sets victory over Constant Lestienne in the first round.

He has won two hard court Masters 1000 titles at the 2021 Miami Open and last year's Shanghai Masters. However, the World No. 7 has an appalling record in New York, with a mere record of 5-6 before 2024.
Thompson has been in good form this year, reaching the finals of a couple of hard-court events he has played in, winning a maiden title. However, overall the Australian does not have an impressive track record on the surface in his career before this year.
