J.J. Wolf vs Oliver Crawford preview
Former Top-40 player and local favorite J.J. Wolf will take on Oliver Crawford in a first-round encounter at the 2024 US Open qualifiers. After making waves on the ATP circuit by making it to the fourth round of the Australian Open last year, the American has struggled to hold on to that form this year, which has seen his rankings drop below 150.
In 2024, Wolf won only two matches on the ATP Tour, beating Alexander Ritschard at the Houston Open and Zachary Svajda at the Citi Open in the opening rounds. At the Majors, the American entered the main draw of the Australian Open but had to retire in his opening-round match against Sebastian Baez. At the French Open, the former World No. 39 entered as the lucky loser but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the first round.
Oliver Crawford is yet to make his main-draw debut on the ATP Tour. The 25-year-old Brit has been in good form as he won the M25 event in Hague on the ITF Tour. He also made it to the finals of the M25 event in Bhopal, India, but had to forfeit his match.
At the other majors of the year, Crawford lost to Vit Kopriva in the final round of qualifying at the Australian Open. At the French Open and Wimbledon, the Brit lost against Li Tu and Richard Gasquet respectively in the first round of qualifying.

J.J. Wolf vs Oliver Crawford prediction
Wolf has the pedigree of playing at Grand Slams and making it to the later stages of the competitions. He reached the fourth round at the 2023 Australian Open and lost after a five-set marathon battle against another American sensation Ben Shelton. He also made a decent run at the 2022 US Open, reaching the third round where he lost to Nick Kyrgios.
Crawford has yet to play a Grand Slam main draw match and has not been exposed to the highest level of competition that exists on the ATP Tour. Also, the Brit has been playing extensively on clay lately on the ITF Tour. It remains to be seen if he can promptly adjust to playing on hard courts.
Considering his experience of playing at the highest level, the American should win and advance to the next round.
Pick- J.J. Wolf to win in straight sets.
