Video: Ivanisevic tips Djokovic and Williams for US Open
Goran Ivanisevic tips Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams for US Open success as Maria Sharapova withdraws with a shoulder injury.
Goran Ivanisevic, former Wimbledon champion:
“I think that Andy (Murray) didn’t pick his game yet. He played badly in Montreal, he didn’t play well in Cincinnati. I mean he lost to finalist (Tomas) Berdych who beat (Rafael) Nadal also. Except Nadal, nobody from this four (Djokovic, Federer, Murray and Nadal), nobody from this four has played unbelievably (well). They are all maybe saving themselves, waiting for the Grand Slam, and I have to say one of these three. It’s always easy to pick one of these three – Nadal, Djokovic or Andy. But there is Roger (Federer). You know everybody says that Roger is finished, but I will not say that. That court is faster than all of the other courts, and if Roger gets his mind up and is starting to play better and better then he can make some damages. So for sure one of these four and then you have Berdych and (Juan Martin) del Potro, but I pick Djokovic as my first pick.”
Goran Ivanisevic, former Wimbledon champion:
“You always have to pick as your only pick Serena (Williams) if she is normal, if she wants to play, if she is happy, if she is whatever (she will win). We saw in Wimbledon that things can happen, that (Sabine) Lisicki beat her. I think she’s focussed now. She doesn’t want to get herself into the same situation. She’s not going to let it happen again (a loss like the one at Wimbledon) and I think she’s the number one favourite. Then you have (Maria) Sharapova and (Victoria) Azarenka, but otherwise I don’t see anybody else coming into that group.
