VIDEO: Jack Sock shows true sportsman's spirit during match against Gasquet at Paris Masters 2016
Young American ace Jack Sock has been making waves on the tennis circuit for over a year now, and this year added to his laurels with an Olympic Mixed Doubles gold medal. The 22-year-old is as noted for his skills on the court as he is for his sportsmanship, and Jack Sock has, more than once, shown that side of himself on court.
Making inroads in his tennis career, Sock has progressed to the quarter-finals at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris-Bercy, the final ATP Masters tournament before the year-ending Tour Finals in London with a Round 3 victory over experienced French ace Richard Gasquet.
Leading Gasquet 5-1 in the first set, Sock was on the receiving end of a blitzing forehand ace off the racquet of Gasquet, which the chair umpire called as a fault. At this point, Sock, who had been at break – and set – point, walked up to the chair umpire and informed him it had in fact been an ace.
A hawk-eye review of the point showed that it was in, and had been an ace.
Gasquet was awarded the point, and although Sock would eventually win in three sets, the gesture showed a rare sportsmanship on the part of the young American.
It is not the first time he has done so – at the Hopman Cup earlier this year, Sock did the same against former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt – and would eventually lose the match.
