Video: Richard Gasquet, John Isner and Philipp Kohlschreiber react to US Open results
Richard Gasquet and Philipp Kohlschreiber won their third round matches at the US Open this Saturday (31 August).
Richard Gasquet, beat Dmitry Tursunov 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 4-2:
(Q. You lost the second set, are you happy with the way you played today?)
“Yeah, I’m happy with the way I played today. I lost the second set. This was a little bit tough for me, especially in the third: I closed the third set too and had a lot of break points but I managed to win that set and that made the difference. And for sure I’m happy because he’s a great player.”
John Isner, lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6:
(Q. What happened?)
“I used too much energy, and I shouldn’t have done that. It was stupid on my part. So I was pretty gassed there. Had I kept it calm, I think, you know, I could still be out there right now. But all that said, he played a smart match. He was better than me, simple as that.”
Philipp Kohlschreiber , beat John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6:
(Q. What is it about your game that seems to have matched up against John so well here the last couple of years?)
“I think the only good thing is that I try to make him move a lot. I don’t go for winners, or like with the first serve I try to have high percentage. I think that’s one of the key moments that, yeah, I’m able to move him around. Maybe he doesn’t, yeah, like being pushed from corner to corner. I don’t know. I played very well today, and also last year. It’s always tough, but it was like I said very good match for me today.”
