Video: Stan Wawrinka drives an auto in India

The 2015 French Open champion looks to defend his Chennai Open title.

With the Chennai Open in progress, Tennis heavyweights have flooded the coastal city of Chennai, and the defending champion, Stan Wawrinka, took to the streets of the city in an auto-rickshaw, driving it all by himself.

In a move aimed at popularising the ATP World Tour 2016, the Swiss champion played the role of the ambassador, befitting enough for the man of his stature, as the ride began from the SDAT stadium.

With a foreign national embracing the Indian culture, this move would probably make the citizens aware of the tournament, and the World Tour at large, especially in a country where cricket predominates the interests of the people.

The ATP World tour is the worldwide tennis circuit of elite professionals, organised by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which includes tennis tournaments around the globe, including the four Grand Slams- the Australian Open, the Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open.

The 2016 tour kicked off on January 4 with the Chennai Open, would conclude on November 26th, and in between there would be  the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, the ATP World Tour 500 series, the ATP World Tour 250 series, the Davis Cup (organized by the ITF), the ATP World Tour Finals and the tennis event at the Rio Summer Olympic Games, in an action-packed calendar
