Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti preview
Top seed Alexander Zverev will lock horns with Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Erste Bank Open on Friday, October 25.
Zverev entered the ATP 500 event following a fourth-round defeat at the Shanghai Masters. Although the German has been inconsistent on hard courts this year, he has been dominant in Vienna. He defeated local wildcard entrant Joel Schwaerzler, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round. He was quick off the blocks, clinching a couple of breakpoints in both sets to beat the 18-year-old.
Zverev then registered a 6-2, 7-5 win over Marcos Giron in the second round. The World No. 3 was excellent with his serve, recording a 90.9% point conversion. Following a comfortable first set, Zverev edged out the American in the second set, preventing a tiebreak.
Lorenzo Musetti, on the other hand, had an even more disappointing outing at the Shanghai Masters. The Italian suffered an upset against David Goffin in the second round. However, he has made a strong comeback in Vienna, defeating Lorenzo Sonego, 6-3, 6-2, in the opener.
Musetti was more effective with his serves and won three out of nine break points to ease past his compatriot. The 22-year-old then earned a walkover in the second round against Gael Monfils, who cited illness for his withdrawal from the tournament.
Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti head-to-head
The spoils are shared between Zverev and Musetti after their previous two meetings. Zverev defeated the Italian at the 2022 ATP Masters 1000 Madrid before the latter won their most recent encounter at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti prediction
Zverev has had an inconsistent run in the second half of the season. The German has yet to register a title since winning the ATP Masters 1000 Rome in May. Since then, he made deep runs in some tournaments, including the French Open, Hamburg Open, and Cincinnati Masters. However, his inability to handle pressure games is a point of concern.
Lorenzo Musetti's recent results on the tour have been worrying. He has won just two of his last five matches. However, the straight-sets win over Sonego will give him much-needed confidence entering the quarterfinals.
Although Zverev's form in hardcourts and crucial matches has been unimpressive, he is expected to come on top in the face-off on Friday. The German's powerful serve and superior experience give him the edge over Musetti.
Pick: Zverev to win in three sets
