Bizarre scenes unfolded at the 2024 Swiss Indoors tournament as Ben Shelton found himself in a comical situation, trying to clear fog from the stadium. The hilarious and unexpected interruption was caused during Shelton's quarterfinals match against Andrey Rublev.
Prior to competing in Basel, Switzerland, Shelton had participated in the Asian swing of the ATP tour. He had a quarterfinal run at the 2024 Japan Open, where he was defeated by eventual champion Arthur Fils 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-7(2). Following this, he competed in the Shanghai Masters, where his run ended in the fourth round against eventual champion Jannik Sinner, losing 4-6, 6-7(1).
Seeded sixth at the Swiss Indoors, Ben Shelton began his campaign by defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. He then faced wild card Stan Wawrinka in the second round, triumphing with a score of 7-6(2), 7-5 to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.
In the last eight match, Shelton defeated Rublev 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. However, at one point during clash, play was unexpectedly interrupted by fog.
In what was a hilarious moment, the former World No.13 attempted to disperse the fog by waving his towel, but to no avail, while Rublev watched on with a smile on his face.

Ben Shelton will go up against seventh seed Arthur Fils in the semifinals of the 2024 Swiss Indoors.
Fils kicked off his journey at the ATP 500 hard court tournament in Basel, Switzerland, by defeating qualifier Daniel Altmaier 7-6(5), 6-3 in the first round. He then overcame Pedro Martinez 7-5, 6-3 in the second round and triumphed over third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(5), 6-3 in the quarterfinals to secure his spot in the semifinals, where he will face Shelton.
Shelton and Fils have faced each other twice on the ATP tour, with each player claiming one victory. Their first encounter was at the 2023 Laver Cup, where Shelton emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(4), 6-1.
Their most recent clash took place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Japan Open, where the Frenchman secured a hard-fought victory with a score of 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-6(2). Fils then went on to defeat Ugo Humbert 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-3 in the final to clinch the title.
