Watch: Roger Federer stumps ballboy with outrageous backhand slice
The BNP Paribas Open is on full-fledged and World Number 1 Roger Federer is already dazzling the spectators with his marvellous aces and winners. Chasing his sixth Indian Wells title, the Swiss maestro is busy keeping the ballboys on their toes.
The numero uno seed flipped a backhand slice carelessly over the net after a net service. The ball landed on the other side of the net and then it spun back to Federer's court. By the time the first ballboy had run in to collect the ball, it had already gone back to Federer's court, leaving the poor ballboy scurrying back to his position.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner, later on, retweeted the video saying the ball boys need to stay on their toes.
Roger Federer has been famous for several signature shots like the tweener which leave the opponents staring in utter disbelief. His clever and surreptitious SABR shots and his backhand winners and crosscourt forehands make everyone gape in wonder.
In the 2009 US Open, when Federer lashed out a fantastic tweener against Novak Djokovic, the Serb was left staring. This has been a constant with Federer who is known for his unpredictable and undoubtedly sophisticated shots which leave the people a little confused before marvelling at the finesse with which the shot was played.
The 36-year-old Federer went on to make little work of Krajinovic of Indian Wells, defeating him in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. He is inching closer to bagging his 6th BNP Paribas Open title and cementing his hold as the World Number 1. He is slated to play against Jeremy Chardy in the next round.
With Nadal, Djokovic nursing their injury-prone careers, it looks like Federer is here to reign in the top spot for quite some while. Meanwhile, we can enjoy and applaud his unstaggering greatness.
