Paris, May 27 (IANS) Newly-crowned Australian champion Stan Wawrinka was bundled out of the French Open after he lost to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 in the first round Monday.

The third-seeded Swiss led 3-1 in the first set before losing it on the Spaniard's first set point by hitting long. He pulled level in the second set, but his 62 unforced errors  on a heavy clay surface eventually cost him the match, Xinhua reported.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal and second seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round of the French Open with easy wins.

Top-ranked Nadal, who had been forced to wait until late afternoon by the rain, was in no mood to hang around as he  beat Ginepri of the US 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 in 102 minutes.

Nadal felt disturbed by the rain delay, which left him waiting at the locker room.

"Mentally, it's a bit always these days tiring -- I really thought I would not play today, during the day, so it makes the mentality doesn't stay at 100 percent all the time," Nadal said.

Novak Djokovic had a comfortable outing against Joao Sousa of Portugal.

The six-time Grand Slam winner, who has never won the title at Roland Garros, beat Sousa 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in just under two hours to set up a meeting with France's Jeremy Chardy.

"I played for most of the match quite solid," said Djokovic. "The end of the match was not so nice from my side - I dropped the serve twice - but they were very heavy conditions. The court is not that great at this moment."

In the women's draw, Maria Sharapova demolished fellow Russian Ksenia Pervak 6-1, 6-2.

"It's always nice to get out there on a day like this," Sharapova said. "It's good to play the first match."

Ninth seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia also progressed to the second round after she beat Virginie Razzano of France 7-5, 6-0.
