Stan Wawrinka wants action taken against Kyrgios
Nick Kyrgios, playing Swiss ace Stanislas Wawrinka at the Rogers Cup in Canada yesterday, trash-talked the French Open champion on court.
The Australian made graphic, disparaging remarks about Wawrinka’s girlfriend, leading to an angry outburst from him on Twitter and via his publicist. Disgusted with Kyrgios’ behaviour, Wawrinka called his comments “unacceptable”, urging the ATP to “take immediate action.”
Kyrgios is known as the ‘bad boy’ of tennis, and it is not the first time his childish behaviour has got him in trouble on court. Earlier this year at Wimbledon, the 20-year-old got into a heated exchange with the umpire of his match against Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman. Although the Australian won that match in straight sets, he threatened to stop playing because he disagreed with the umpire’s line call, which cost him a point.
He has also, over the years, yelled expletives at opponents, spectators and can often be seen throwing his racquet around if he does not get his way on court.
In his statement, Wawrinka said there was “...no need for this kind of behaviour," adding that he hoped “..the ATP will take major action against him this time."
He also tweeted about the incident –
There is no need for this kind of behaviour on or off the court and I hope the governing body of this sport does not stand...

... for this and stands up for the integrity of this sport that we have worked so hard to build.

Wawrinka, as have many others, has publicly called Kyrgios out on his unsportsmanlike behaviour. There has been no response from Kyrgios or any official statement so far.
The Swiss player retired yesterday following a lower back injury and will be in recovery until the U.S. Open later this month.
