"What number in world are you?" - When Carlos Alcaraz's brother Jaime came to Jannik Sinner's defense against criticism from fan during Wimbledon
Carlos Alcaraz's brother Jaime once defended Jannik Sinner after a fan criticized the Italian during the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. Jaime also plays tennis and triumphed on The Rafa Nadal Tour a year ago.
Alcaraz and Sinner both competed in Wimbledon 2023, with the Spaniard becoming the champion and the Italian exiting in the semifinals. They have developed quite a rivalry over the past few years and share a great bond off the court as well.
Alcaraz's path to victory featured wins over Jeremy Chardy, Alexandre Muller, Nicolas Jarry, Matteo Berrettini, Holger Rune, Daniil Medvedev, and Novak Djokovic. Meanwhile, Sinner's journey to the semifinals saw him triumphing over Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Diego Schwartzman, Quentin Halys, Daniel Elahi Galan, and Roman Safiullin before losing to Djokovic.
Carlos Alcaraz's younger brother Jaime, 13, who was present at Wimbledon to support his brother, took to Instagram and posted a carousel, including one with his family and another with Jannik Sinner.
One user commented under his post and called the Italian a "clown":
"You can't be happy with this clown @janniksin. Seriously enjoying and eating strawberries with cream."
Jaime quickly came to Sinner's defense, writing:
"What number in world are you? And Sinner?"
Jannik Sinner opened up about his relationship with Carlos Alcaraz
Jannik Sinner discussed his relationship with Carlos Alcaraz during the 2024 Miami Open, revealing that while they share "a lot of respect" for each other on the court, they don't interact much off it.
"When we play against, it's a very good matchup, we both try our best. We have a lot of respect for each other and, obviously, off the court we don't speak that much because he has his own things and I have my things," Sinner told the media.
"He's a player who can show so many things and he has a lot of emotions. He shows really good fighting spirit and everyone is different no, I'm not showing so many emotions on the court but it works as well on my side," he added.
The World No. 1 continued:
"Very happy always when I face him [Carlos Alcaraz], it gives me a new perspective for where I have to work on. Last year, I lost against him also in the semifinals there [Indian Wells] and I just tried to be ready for here [Miami Open], hopefully, I can do this year the same."
