Daniil Medvedev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic preview
World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev will lock horns with Aleksandar Kovacevic in the first round of the 2024 Wimbledon.
Medvedev started the year with some strong performances as he reached the finals of the Australian Open and the Indian Wells Masters. He also made the semifinals of the Miami Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The Russian's transition to clay wasn't as smooth as last year, though he still had some good results. He reached the fourth round of the French Open, and the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open prior to that.
Medvedev kicked off his grass season by competing at the Boss Open in Halle. A win over Nuno Borges put him in the second round, where he lost to Zhizhen Zhang in three sets.
Kovacevic has struggled to get going for most of the season, and has compiled a 5-12 record so far. His best result has been a quarterfinal showing at the Los Cabos Open in February. He has won only two main draw matches since then, with his last win coming in April at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships.
Kovacevic is now on a five-match losing streak. Given his ranking, he was relegated to competing in the qualifiers of the warm-up tournaments before Wimbledon. However, he failed to make it past the qualifying rounds.
Daniil Medvedev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic head-to-head
This will be the first meeting between them, so the head-to-head is currently tied at 0-0.

Daniil Medvedev vs Aleksandar Kovacevic prediction
Medvedev had won five titles by this time last year, and continued his good run of form at Wimbledon as well. He made the semifinals at the All England Club for the first time last year, going down to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. He hasn't hoisted a winner's trophy this year so far.
Kovacevic will be making his main draw debut at Wimbledon. He has only one win to his name at the Majors so far, which came at this year's Australian Open. The 25-year-old's poor form could make things difficult for him against Medvedev.
The Russian hasn't lost to a player ranked outside the top 50 this year. The weaknesses in his game are being exposed by quite more and more players. However, against an out-of-sorts Kovacevic, he should be able to get the job done and move on to the next round.
Pick: Daniil Medvedev to win in straight sets.
