Wimbledon 2024 Day 10: Women's doubles predictions ft. Barbora Krejcikova/Laura Siegemund vs Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe
Day 10 (July 10) of Wimbledon 2024 will bring an end to the quarterfinal stage of the women's doubles event. The weather played spoilsport as two of the four quarterfinal duels were scheduled yesterday but got postponed to today due to torrential downpour.
The American duo of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will take on the top-seeded pair of Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei. Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok will go up against Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova for a spot in the semifinals. The Latvian is set to contest two matches, as she's also a quarterfinalist in singles.
These two matches were initially set for yesterday, and the predictions for the same can be found here. On that note, here's a look at the predictions for the other two quarterfinal matches set for Day 10 of Wimbledon:
#1 Barbora Krejcikova/Laura Siegemund vs Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe
Krejcikova will be on double duty on Wednesday as she will first take to the court against Ostapenko in the singles quarterfinal. A win would be a morale booster but if she goes down to the Latvian, she will have to regroup quickly before her doubles tie.
Krejcikova and Siegemund played their best match of the week when they beat Veronika Kudermetova and Chan Hao-ching 6-1, 6-2 in the previous round. The two have yet to drop a set during the tournament.
Dabrowski and Routliffe reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships. After a runner-up finish at the Miami Open, their partnership was put on hold due to the Canadian's injury. The two reunited at the start of the grass swing, and it was a victorious get together.
The two won their very first tournament as a team upon Dabrowski's return as they captured the title in Nottingham. While they bowed out from Birmingham in the first round, they made it all the way to the final in Eastbourne.
Dabrowski and Routliffe secured a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win over Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Marta Kostyuk to make the last eight at Wimbledon. Since teaming up full time last year, they have won three titles, including the US Open.
Krejcikova and Siegemund have yet to lay their hands on the winner's trophy as a pair. The Czech is the only one to have triumphed at Wimbledon in the past, and seems to be back in top form after a period of injury struggles. If she maintains this level, she and the German could come out on top in this encounter.
Predicted winners: Barbora Krejcikova and Laura Siegemund
#2 Caroline Dolehide/Desirae Krawczyk vs Timea Babos/Nadiia Kichenok
Dolehide and Krawczyk have had some good results this season. The duo finished as the runners-up at the Qatar Open, and made the semifinals of the Italian Open and the French Open. However, they struggled on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon.
The American duo fell at the first hurdle in Nottingham and Eastbourne. They got their act together at Wimbledon, and reached the last eight here without losing a single set. They beat the French pairing of Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia in the previous round.
Babos and Kichenok's fresh pairing has already wreaked some havoc at Wimbledon. They have eliminated two seeded teams, including the third-seeded pair of Ellen Perez and Nicole Melichar-Martinez. They beat 15th seed Asia Muhammad and Aldila Sutjiadi 7-5, 6-3 in the previous round.
Babos is former World No. 1 in doubles, and has won four Major titles in the discipline as well. However, she has struggled over the last two years, though she is slowly climbing up the rankings this year.
Krawczyk and Dolehide have made the semifinals at the All England Club in the past, and the latter has never lost before that stage in her career. The former has also won two mixed doubles titles here. Their experience as a pair could come in handy against their next opponents.
However, Babos and Kichenok's underdog tale might not be done just yet. They have turned out to be the surprise package of the tournament, and could continue to forge their way ahead with another upset win. This match could go down to the wire, though Dolehide and Krawczyk have a slight edge in this showdown as the more in-sync pair.
Predicted winners: Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk
