Emma Raducanu vs Lulu Sun preview
2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu will face qualifier Lulu Sun in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon on Sunday, July 7.
Raducanu beat Renata Zarazua 7-6 (0), 6-3 in her opener, and followed it up with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over Elise Mertens. She was up against World No. 9 Maria Sakkari in the third round.
The Brit made a statement by breaking Sakkari's serve right off the bat and held serve after that to make it 2-0. She didn't let her opponent claw her way back into the set at any cost and bagged the last three games in a row to take the set.
An early break of serve in the second set helped Raducanu go 3-1 up. Sakkari later served to stay in the match at 5-3 but the Brit secured one final break of serve to score a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Sun came through the qualifying rounds after saving a match point. She then staged a comeback from a set down to defeat World No. 8 Zheng Qinwen in the first round and did the same in the second round against Yulia Starodubtseva.
Sun faced Zhu Lin for a spot in the fourth round. The former led by a break twice in the first set but the latter fought back to even the score and then forced a tie-break. The qualifier came out on top in it to take a one-set lead.
Sun was on the backfoot at the start of the second set but overcame a break deficit to get back on even terms. She then saved a couple of set points in the ensuing tie-break to win the match 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6).

Raducanu's win over Sakkari was her second over a top-10 player in as many weeks. The Brit won 71 percent of her first serve points and hit 15 winners against 13 unforced errors.
Raducanu has now reached the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time, and the first time at a Major since her title-winning run at the 2021 US Open. Sun has blazed through the draw and fought against all odds to reach this far. She fired 43 winners compared to 29 unforced errors in the previous round.
However, Sun's journey is likely to conclude here. Raducanu has been in great form throughout the grass swing and hasn't lost a set at Wimbledon thus far. She has also dropped her serve only once across three matches. She will be favored to make her first quarterfinal here based on her form.
