The quarter-final of the Wimbledon 2024 will see the 2024 Australian Open final being repeated as World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will square off against World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev in a potentially thrilling contest. Sinner has had some stellar performances so far in 2024 that have seen him attain the World No. 1 ranking.
The Italian has enjoyed an impressive grass-court season so far, winning all of his nine matches on the surfaces. He won the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle after defeating Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
At Wimbledon, Sinner needed four sets to overcome the challenge of Yannick Hanfmann in the opening round. The newly-crowned World No. 1 then secured another four-sets victory over former Wimbledon runner-up Matteo Berrettini.
In the third round, Sinner registered a routine straight-sets victory over Miomir Kecmanovic. In the fourth round, he faced his first-seeded opponent in the tournament as he took on Ben Shelton. The Italian won 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (9).
Medvedev has not performed as well in the 2024 season as per his high standards. The Russian has reached only two finals in the season so far, losing both of them. His ranking too, has slipped from 5th to 3rd on the ATP rankings.
Medvedev has a 5-1 record on grass courts this season. The Russian suffered an upset against Zhang Zhizhen in the second round of the Terra Wortmann Open.
At Wimbledon, Medevedev started his campaign with a straight-sets victory over Aleksander Kovacevic. In the next two rounds, the Russian played tricky four-set matches against Alexandre Muller and Jan-Lennard Struff. In the fourth round, Medvedev, faced off against tenth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov, winning by walkover as the Bulgarian retired in the first set sure to injury.

Sinner was as effective with his second serve, winning 70% of points behind them. On the return wing. Sinner targeted the second serve of his opponent, winning 59% of the points. The Italian also came to the net 32 times, winning 67% of the net points.
In his third-round match against Struff, Medvedev hit 13 aces and won 79% of his first-serve points. The Russian player made only 17 unforced errors but hit 47 winners to dominate his opponent completely. Medvedev who is known to be a baseliner, also came to the net 21 times, winning 71% of the net points.
This will be the first time the two players will meet on grass. Medvedev will be fresher since his last victory came via walkover in the first set. However, given his current form and improved serving Sinner will be the favorite to win this match.
