Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva preview
Two players with wildly different styles of play — Jelena Ostapenko and Yulia Putintseva — will lock horns for a spot in the 2024 Wimbledon quarterfinals on Monday.
Ostapenko, the 13th seed at this year’s tournament, has been dominant in her wins so far. She has dropped only 10 games in her three matches against Ajla Tomljanovic, Daria Snigur and Bernarda Pera.
That marks quite the turnaround given that the Latvian had won just one match in the warmup tournaments that she played on grass. Her overall win-loss for the season after the Wimbledon results stands at 27-12.
Putintseva, meanwhile, has had a completely different grass court season. The Kazakh won her first title on the surface at Birmingham and has since picked up three wins here this week to find herself unbeaten on grass.
Having come into Wimbledon with an impressive 28-15 win-loss (4-0 on grass), she fought past former champion Angelique Kerber and 27th seed Katerina Siniakova before running into Iga Swiatek. The Kazakh came back from a set down to bamboozle the World No. 1 — allowing her just three games in the last two sets.
Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva head-to-head
Ostapenko and Putintseva have split their four meetings on the Tour before, so their current head-to-head stands at a 2-2 deadlock. They last played at Indian Wells in 2021, with the Latvian winning in three sets.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Yulia Putintseva prediction
The fourth-round encounter will pit Jelena Ostapenko’s raw firepower against Yulia Putintiseva’s court craft and dogged play.
The Latvian likes to go after every ball and be aggressive. The strategy has worked well for her this week, but she will need to be prepared for what an enthused Putintseva may bring to the table.
The Kazakh showed the usual grit in the match against Iga Swiatek, but with the added punch of a vastly improved return game. Winning 68% of the first serve and over 52% over the second serve points against the World No. 1 is no mean feat and Putintseva has been posting encouraging numbers all week.
Putintseva has not been afraid of going after her shots and that’s where Ostapenko will have to be careful. Simply feeding pace to her opponent will not cut it out. She will also have to protect her rather attackable second serve (she was winning just over 50% on these points against Pera in her last match).
Much like their past meetings, this one also seems heading towards a tight finish and Putintseva’s winning momentum may just pull her through.
Prediction: Putintseva to win in three sets
