Wozniacki with chance to make it fifth time lucky in Bastad
Caroline Wozniacki will have the chance to end a frustrating run of near-misses after edging out Elise Mertens to reach the final of the Swedish Open.
Former world number one Wozniacki has won more matches on the WTA Tour in 2017 than any other player and will appear in her fifth final of the year when she takes on Katerina Siniakova - the 2016 runner-up in Bastad - on Sunday.
However, the Dane was beaten in each of those previous final appearances, so will be desperate to finally secure a trophy.
The top seed this week, Wozniacki needed just over two hours to see off Mertens 7-5 4-6 6-2.

Siniakova's clash with Caroline Garcia was interrupted on three occasions by rain before the former finally completed a 6-2 7-5 victory.
While Siniakova is looking to go one better in Bastad after losing last year's final, Wozniacki was the runner-up at the clay-court event in 2009.
