Zheng Qinwen vs Wang Xinyu preview
Fifth seed Zheng Qinwen will take on Wang Xinyu in the semifinals of the Wuhan Open on Saturday.
Qinwen has become a force to be reckoned with on the women's tour this year. She stunned the women's locker room with a gold medal triumph in the Summer Olympics and also secured a runner-up finish in the Australian Open. The youngster also captured the Palermo Ladies Open by defeating Karolina Muchova in the finals, 6-2, 6-3.
The Chinese No. 1 entered Wuhan on the back of a semifinal run in Beijing. She started her campaign by breezing past Jaqueline Cristian and Leylah Fernandez in the first couple of rounds and then outlasted Jasmine Paolini in the third. Qinwen defeated the Italian Paolini in three-sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Wang Xinyu, meanwhile, has struggled to find consistency this year. She's chalked up 23 wins from 46 matched, including a semifinal appearance in the Thailand Open. She also reached the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships, where she lost to Elina Svitolina in an engrossing bout.
The 23-year-old entered Wuhan on the back of a second round exit in Beijing. She outfoxed the likes of Lucia Bronzetti, Jessica Pegula and Ekaterina Alexandrova en route to the semifinals. Xinyu defeated the Russian Alexandrova in three-sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5(6).

Zheng Qinwen vs Wang Xinyu prediction
Qinwen has taken significant strides towards the top of the WTA Rankings this year. She was ranked outside the top 100 in 2021 but is currently among the top 10 players in the world. She's won 17 out of 20 three-set matches this year, which showcases her grit and determination on the main tour.
Xinyu, on the other hand, has missed out on multiple events despite making a positive start this year. She's through to the semifinals on tour after eight months and will be eager to make it count. The Chinese held her nerve brilliantly against Alexandrova in the last match and needs to keep her focus against Qinwen in the next round.
The fifth seed will undoubtedly be the favorite to come out on top, but Xinyu is more than capable of causing an upset in this round. If the challenger can establish control early in the match and keep Qinwen on the defensive, she may be able to reverse the momentum and advance to the final of the Wuhan Open and enter the finals of the Wuhan Open this year.
Pick: Xinyu to win in three-sets.
