Former junior World No.1 Yuki Bhambri defeated Japanese fourth seed Kento Takeuchi 7-5, 6-2 in the final of ITF Men’s Future tennis tournament in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, on Sunday to claim his eighth Future singles title and $15,000 in prize money.

Ranked 593 in the world by ATP, the 21-year old has looked to improve his ranking by playing Future tournaments and made the final of a similar tournament at the same venue last week, before retiring in the final against Liang-Chi Huang of Chinese Taipei with the score at one set apiece.

The weather didn’t help the former Junior Australian Open champion and Youth Olympics silver medallist’s cause, as a rain affected schedule meant that he had to negotiate singles and doubles matches in quick succession, but Bhambri’s trainer Nasir Ahmed ensured the player took good care of his fitness.

Winning the title earned the youngster 27 ATP points to take his tally for the week to 42.

He will next attempt to qualify for ATP Challenger events.
