The Farmers Insurance Open 2024, also known as the "West Coast Swing," will be held from January 24 to January 27. In the early portion of the season, this PGA Tour professional golf tournament is held in San Diego, California. Originally, the San Diego Open (Farmers Insurance—Sponsorship Reasons) officially started in 1952.

The Farmers Insurance Open 2024 was won by Matthieu Pavon with a score of 275 under 13; he won $1.62 million of the $9 million purse. His victory in the 72-hole stroke-play title earned him 55.6 Official World Golf Ranking points, which improved his ranking. Additionally, he received 500 FedEx Cup points.

Max Homa, the winner of the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open, capped off an incredible run with a PGA Tour victory at Torrey Pines. In the last round, Homa prevailed over Sam Ryder, Keegan Bradley, and several other players.

Homa won by two strokes on 13-under-275 thanks to his final round score of 6-under-66. Bradley had an 11-under total to finish in sole second place. Of the $8,700,000 purse, Homa took home the $1,566,000 winner's share.

Farmers Insurance Open 2024 History

The Farmers Insurance Open was established 71 years ago in 1952, and since then, until 1985, it was known as the San Diego Open. The inaugural two iterations were held at Chula Vista's San Diego Country Club. Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, the site of the Crosby Pro-Am before World War II, had held the San Diego Open in 1954.

In 1981, title sponsors were added: Isuzu for three years and Wickes for two. In 1986, Shearson Lehman Brothers took up as title sponsors. In 1992, Buick took over, and in 2010, Farmers Insurance took over. The Century Club of San Diego is in charge of organizing the event.

From 1968 until 1988, singer-actor Andy Williams served as the tournament's celebrity host. The PGA Tour acknowledges two previous San Diego Opens with the same name, held in December 1927 and January 1929, both won by Leo Diegel.

The event moved to Singing Hills Country Club in El Cajon in October 1956 after being held at Mission Valley Country Club in San Diego in 1955. From 1957 until 1963, the event was held in Mission Valley. In 1962, Mission Valley became Stardust Country Club (now known as Riverwalk Golf Club). It returned to Stardust for three years, through 1967, following one edition in 1964 at Rancho Bernardo Country Club (now Rancho Bernardo Inn) in San Diego.

The event started its current partnership with the City of San Diego's 36-hole Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla in 1968. The course at Torrey Pines in those early editions measured less than 6,850 yards (6,265 meters).

Currently, the North and South Courses are used to split the first 36 holes of the tournament, with the South Course hosting the last 36 holes. Two U.S. Opens have been held at the South Course: Jon Rahm won in 2021 and Tiger Woods won in a playoff in 2008.

Farmers Insurance Open 2024 Course

The Farmers Insurance Open has been held at Torrey Pines on the PGA Tour since the late 1960s. Less than 6,850 yards (6,265 meters) separated the starting positions in those early Torrey Pines events. Traditionally, the tournament is held in January or February. The first two rounds are played on both courses, while the final two rounds are played on the South Course.

The city of San Diego, California, owns the 36-hole Torrey Pines Golf Course, which is a municipal golf course located on the west coast of the country. It is located in the La Jolla neighborhood, immediately south of Torrey Pines State Reserve, on the seaside cliffs with a view of the Pacific Ocean. It was constructed on the location of Camp Callan, a U.S. Army installation during World War II.

The two 18-hole golf courses at Torrey Pines, North and South, were created by William Francis Bell, the renowned course architect's son. With a par of 72, the South Course measures 7,802 yards (7,134 meters) from the back tees after being rebuilt by Rees Jones in 2001. Tom Weiskopf renovated the North Course in 2016, rearranging the nines so that the spectacular ocean views may now be appreciated at the end of the round.
